The Chamber of Death (On The Execution of Timothy McVeigh)

(A social comment on the execution of Timothy McVeigh and life on planet earth.)

The Death Chamber tasted a morsel today with barely a burp,
Inspiring rhetorical parlance on the morality of life usurped.
For chambers of death, this one was sterile and dry--almost humble:
No smoke, no sirens, no blood, no screams, not even any rubble.

Punishment came quickly, but vengeance was unsatisfied.
A clinical ending beggars the search of an eye for an eye.
The defiant morsel, needle in arm, quietly served his sentence;
His death hardly a remedy for the victims of remembrance.

The shock, the sigh, the clamor, the cry for justice was unyielding
When the Death Chamber feasted on innocents at the Federal Building.
Forty days later the last dead body was removed from the wreckage;
But today the Chamber devoured its prey in only forty seconds.

Death does not distinguish between the innocent and the guilty;
Our human fear is growing as our common bond is wilting.
Let us cry for mercy on the living who never will find rest,
While we exist, defiant morsels, on this spinning Chamber of Death.

Caught in the Act by Paul Lonardo
