Hollow Spectres / Reflections

by Jeff Mason — Read all 207 poems by Jeff Mason

The second in the series. Toying with the idea of a series.

The words contained,
within each breath
of balmy breeze,
remained...
sanctified;
A burning, fuel-drenched wick
Upon that waxy candle; wicked
With endemic passion;
The moon of 28th day
profusely bleeding --
rent by crooked shards of glass
imbued with our
insistent pleading;

In wanton beads
of dripping need...
stark thunderclouds,
refusing to give heed --
to drenching rain;
announcing you –

Resounding thunder --
upon vacant, thirsty ground;
now torn asunder,
by bolts of lightning’s
ceaseless hunger.

Inside herself,
Earth howled aloud... and stirred;
her painful cries were not unheard --
bringing crimson tear to every bird
that flew along her windswept plains,
and empathized her trembling pains;

And yet, protective thoughts
removed their very fear –
through solace
of each wishful painted word;
as they traversed --
grand universe,
to soar and sear --
in anxious, fevered flight;

Remembrance of all souls
to ever have been crafted
in the molten silver
of the Mirror’s molds.

This is a terrific write - Free Form but with skillful use of rhyme and meter to lend momentum and lyricism to the language. It flows, yet arrests in words and images - Everything 'modern" poetry should be!
