 (pensive remembrance)

dew drops proudly hold
baited snips of sunlit gold
from fading into hidden shadow;
tales from mirrored moments brash and bold,
in shared reflections left unbound;
in this space we once imagined,
prayed we never would be found...
listless, loss now brought upon us...
empty, save for what you've left us
of your self and selfless substance;
you now gone, but once and ever all around.

more than any words can speak,
resounding echoes in lives you blessed;
a summit that we know... will never peak!
secrets shared by thee and we; some to never be confessed.

rise up now, and evermore,
as we broach your wisdom's shore;
for you were something so much more
than just a fold
amid the creases of the ether.
your words and thoughts
shall e'er remain
pearls in world's of treasured lore;
limitless... your realm,
and you, the king beneath her.

your heart shall not be silenced;
you, our knight of old;
sword still piercing through that veil,
with breadth of volume so unmatched,
fighting senseless agents of those cold
unbridled masses of the dark; the frail.
always with another plot,
awaiting the right moment to be hatched;
brilliant as the sun, and surely just as stark;
eternally you sail.

harsh forces sought to lessen you,
but those weakest boughs shall always break,
and bow to your impassioned lake
of depths you never feared to show.
and our vow to you always remains:
we shall hold a place for you,
and share that part of you
that you allowed us
so graciously to know.

crowned now beyond that farthest door;
your voice still sings in each refrain.
we taste the love that you so poured;
in our salted tears that flow to your domain.

Thank you for this impassioned form about your friend, Thomas Horton. I read the obituary and was amazed at what this man achieved in his short life, certainly one-of-a-kind.

Jeff.... A wistful remembrance. Your choice of words adds well to the spirit of the piece. Loss is never easy, and I can empathize. My father passed this year in Feb. 96 years old. In one moment, the Patriarch torch was passed to me. Sobering. So, he who has gone, we will cherish the memory that abides with us, at times even more potent than the living man. Regards.... rlc
