Are those muppets in the adverts supposed to be us?

See their eagerness to embrace the latest
vacuum cleaner, with open arms;
The happy smiles of old couples signing away
their mortal souls, to take out
inflated-interest Equity Release loans;
the chav stampede to the temples of Primark and Walmart
as the eve of the birth of Jesus Christ draws near
in the inevitable death-march of approaching winter
(God help us all).

See the simpery grins of Stepford-like wives
discussing the latest spray bleaches and
plughole unblockers;
listen to the fiddle of Bolsanaro's Nero
as the rainforest burns,
and the facile world of advertisements turns
on power-guzzling flat screen TVs
and the happy couple's dream home
is so perfect
so perfect
you could vomit
and again I say,

are those muppets in the adverts supposed to be us?!
.
Well I wish them all joy
of their fancy kitchens,
their miracle earwax removal
their maskless, COVID-less, perfectly
fictitious world of make-believing;
they are not deceiving anyone.
.
The dirt is still there,
the world is still hurtling towards the apocalypse
as we orbit around the great anus of banality.
.
Those people in the adverts
are not us.
We are real
and we really, really need to wake up.

I like your urgency and your way of expressing it. If only more would read and understand what you mean and not go off to their childhood dreams of not seeing the forest for the trees. One more year and one more step closer to that oblivion that will come if we don't do something… Now!
In the United States, the Infrastructure Bill being passed today, will do some good, but government cannot do it all. Those of us that still have financial clout, need to directed towards clean and green. Remember how it was when we had nothing and still enjoyed the season.
