A Thief In The Night

Another poem dedicated to the survivors.

You come as a thief in the night,

To rob the last of a child's innocence,

No longer a girl - not yet a woman.

Roused from slumber by unfamiliar stirrings,

Fear is the emotion that rises to the top,

To scared to draw a breath or reveal consciousness.

Hands so familiar, now as a stranger’s,

Heart pounding, soul screaming in vain,

Frozen with fright, helpless to defend.

Taking your pleasure from pain so deep,

A thief in the night you are,

Probing, stealing that which does not belong to you.

Stealing the jewels of a young, nubile girl-woman,

No forethought for the consequences,

Satisfying the curiosity of desire,

All the while sacrificing the last memories of childhood.

You leave as you came, silently,

A child no more - unable to comprehend,

The warm liquid calling card provides cold comfort from a thief in the night.

Your imagery of "a warm liquid calling card bathing the victim in cold comfort" is spot on, whether it be from this terrible child abuse described, or the products of self-hurt. I've neither done nor experienced either, but I can take on a character's role through your poetry.

They are achieved, terrible lines of poetry that everyone should hear.

Rose, I must apologize for not getting back into your archives earlier. This powerful heart-ripping, soul-snatching composition has brought me to tears. I will never understand how anyone could do something as terrible as this to a child. My heart is absolutely broken. I am not a woman, yet personally I know many whom have suffered the long-lasting ill effects of such a heinous crime that sometimes I wish I were one out of shame for our species. Without trying to cover for men, I also know many who have suffered the same ill effects caused on the flipside of the coin and it brings me to tears. Take care and be well my gifted friend.

What power and force do you deliver in this poem! Yes the reader has to live it to understand it. You are a spiritual writer and the spirit comes through so well for you. Bill

P.S. I recommend that you read some of the poety of one of your commentators. He is is wise and strong and his word is powerful; far beyond his years. >>> Bhuwan Thapaliya < < < < < <

a very graphic troubling scenario that must be very difficult to overcome ...the reader has no choice but to become part of it ... so in that sense, a very successful poem ...

It is harshly sad the depths to which our kind can sink...and joyous the crests to which the courage of those so harshly treated can ascend...there are no words to add to this that you have written...only tears that any should have to experience such deep betrayal...bright blessings to you, M'Lady, and hopes that you find softer graces in the times to come...be well...
