A soldier returning home.

                                           I'll be coming home soon

                                               battle grasp in hand

                                        Troubled mind and torn flesh

                                              but victory for the land.

I know your tears have been many

                                              your smile will be new

Yes, the times have been hard

                                              but from them we grew.

                                            I'll be coming home soon

                                             For the battle we've won.

                                                  I think I'll go fishing

                                                And retire this old gun.

                                                Do birds still chatter in

                                                 That old maple tree?

                                            What about dad's old dog

                                         Think he still remembers me?

                                             I'll be coming home soon

                                                       Victory in hand

And I know you will be proud

                                           Because we saved the land.

We should all be proud of every soldier coming home, and always remember those that didn't make it home.

I certainly hope that “save the land” (protecting our territorial imperative given by?) is the only reason we ever have to go to war and come back again, scarred, but alive. Some don't.

I'm reminded of, When Johnny Comes Marching Home Again… Hurrah… Hurrah.
