Learning to tie shoelaces
was a chore-
and when they came loose
a bit of a bore.
But there was something
they taught me,
when I tied them myself,
independently.
A pair of shoes
helped me get
to the places
I liked,
the people
I met.
But the secret
of tying secure knots
is something
you get through
life, a lot.
Sometimes they unravel
when you don’t want them to,
and leave you with heartache,
and sad, and blue.
And sometimes you untie them, when,
you’re where you belong,
and out of the rain.
Shoelaces make for sure-footed walking
and sometimes our feet
will do the talking.

Yes, learning things is difficult at first, and if what you have learned comes unraveled, it is doubly difficult to go back and learn it again right.
I don't remember struggling to tie my shoe laces. But perhaps I did and that's why I always go back and retry when things get unraveled. And, there are times when I know I'll never become a shoelacer and pursue other avenues. ;-)
Suzy, great analogy. I am afraid many go through life never getting their shoelaces tied, always loose, undone dragging along on the ground. I have those days. I guess that is why I love my Crocs, just slip em on and go, but you have to keep an eye on them as the soles wear out quickly and one can slip very easily and boy have I slipped a time or two.
Maybe I should just go bare foot, ha!
