Retirement Plans

I jump off the porch and sprint across the sand
Because it burns the soles of my red-tint feet
People are sun-bathing while
The sun people watches serenely from the sky
And I drink up a beautiful, blue afternoon

I dig my toes into the loose sand
And create a mountain with white-speckled feet
My friends are laughing as
We soak up hours of memories and heat
And I inhale the unforgettable, ocean air

I tiptoe atop the shell-broken sand
Before it can swallow my surf-tickled feet
The splashing fizzes are
Ebbing ripples dancing on sea-green glass
And I curse my shoes for living on asphalt

I delve out past the marine quicksand
Where the earth no longer restrains my feet
The waves are hypnotic how
They spray my body with tranquil mists
And I beg my dreams to be made of this day
