Memories, choices and consequences.

Poem Artwork

Silence permeates this house,

Except for the hypnotic ticking of the clock

Nostalgically my mind meanders

But all too soon,

I reach a T-junction called “memory lane”

And although silent,

the memories of bygone years flood back.

Recalling a far happier time,

of a joyful place,

one I then called home.

My eyes burn, and my vision blurs

but I keep myself in check,

not allowing the tears to stream.

So much has changed,

The years have melded into each other.

Uncannily unseen.

And I bear the consequences

Of my unwise choices!

This is a stirring summation told brilliantly
in parsimonious format with just
the right amount of self-blame to
expose our ungodly choices.

Poignantly expressed and clearly so. Interestingly, I have written two poems recently that referred to the choices we make and the roads we travel.

Stirring write of self awareness, our pasts bring us into our presents but all too often the memories and the lessons are too painful to bear.
