After I wrote this poem, it inspired my husband and I to write our children's story and screenplay, Milton's Dilemma.
Clancy O’Donnell was a sad little one His life lacked of friendship, it lacked of fun. Picked on and taunted by neighborhood lads He endlessly searched for a reason, alas… The harder he tried, the worse it became Clancy’s conclusion, he alone was to blame. They must be right, he was useless and strange He didn’t deserve friendship, they had nothing to gain. Filled with sadness, filled with grief Clancy prayed harder for some relief. Pray as he may, pray as he might His troubles continued until one special night… Just when he felt it was time to give up Clancy discovered a shinny gold cup. It contained a liquid filled with magical potions That promised the drinker undying devotion. Clancy drank greedily, anticipating a solution But instead discovered a message Engraved at the bottom, the words rang out true Be yourself, you are special, And God will always love you.
