Looking through that glass darkly -- acceptance

You build a Cocoon And never leave it You feel safe Hiding there Behind a web of lies So treasured Your dignity Your self-worth Are thereby measured You wish to protect Me and You With the familiar silence If only you realized One can see right through you You trade Respect for convenience You trade Love for old fondness So be it copyright 2007 RDP

Gina - Enjoyed your "Transparent Hide-out" and its expression of the all too human settling:
You trade
Respect for convenience
You trade
Love for old fondness
So be it

hello Gina, a very touching creation, kind of took the thoughts right out of my head. My wife and I have been together over 20 years. she's upstairs, I'm down. Just before reading this I was thinking about going up and sharing some of our mental baggage, then give her a kiss.

hugs my dear

Nicely written, indeed! Without wasting a single word, you have painted a picture of a. . .guess you could call 'im a sidewinder-?
In a cocoon, yet-? Hit the nail on the head, that's obvious. Better hush before I get tangled in a metaphorical web of my own. 'Pea':) <3:)

Nicely written. This poem has immeasurable value. I liked your short and to the point phrases that are poetic and artistic showing your true depth as a gifted poet.

Wonderful sketch of observations, Regina. Most of us, particularly men, are not very smart when it comes to hiding emotions or attitudes. You rightfully point out that the capacity to love is so often compromised by selfish attitudes and ego. A moment of truth..

Much better to be free whether in spirit or literally than to remain in a cocoon and never see....
