The Little Stranger

While I was wandering down life’s road

I came upon a stump and a tiny toad

I inquired as I borrowed a log

have you seen my hunting dog

No said the toad with a bewildering grin

I can only see the places that you’ve been

So let me tell you what I can vision

and free your soul from worry’s prison

You’ve climbed the mountains very high

and tread the valleys so far below

your feelings they have shadowed both

though you dared not let them show

To let them show brings you fear

You’re someone who cares for all

and this life you try to share

though some void of rhyme or reason

only display their lack of care

These are ones who love themselves

The mistakes you made were plenty

yet none were your downfall

with sight that could see most anything

you often missed the writings on the wall

Let your sight see what isn’t there

Trust and faith you placed in others

both were returned and often abused

to some you tried to give your all

only to find your desires misused

Still you kept on trying

You sampled good and evil

in clubs and rooms with beds

you can’t remember much of them

just bodies void of heads

Let the bodies vanish as well

Others were placed before you

in times of want and need

because their wants were so much more

you denied the emotion greed

As you give you will receive

You’ve given more though less returned

which caused you no concern

mind’s chalk the stick for writing

upon the board of things you’ve learned

Take note of your accomplishments

The damage done by others

you repaired by will alone

though the scars that they bequeathed you

are still there but never shown

Tough are those who mend themselves

Death and misery found your door

delivering packages filled with grief

the moments buried in depths of heart

still search for avenues of relief

Let those who’ve passed, pass completely

All in all you’ve done very well

to maintain your dreams and drive

you rise to the sun each morning

and enjoy the feeling of being alive

Each coming day births new life

The tiny toad he disappeared

leaving a note with a lovely hue

all he said within its lines

was enjoy life by being you.

"Let those who’ve passed, pass completely" How true this is and how freeing it also is for the living. Memories can remain sweet without clinging too tightly to a time gone by. Excellent offering.
Take care,
Sherry

An enticing, lyrical romp through life, only to find out the wisdom of just being you! Wonderful imagery; I felt like I was skipping along life's roads with you. Good read! Joy L.Hale

This is an absolute harvest of poetic thoughts, and the way you have the dialogue going with toad is marvelous!
