 Trial by Insomnia

Softly dusting clouds with wishes

Spreading dreams across the night

Old secrets told on summer breezes

Linger unfulfilled 'til morning light

 

Sleepless night, just one of many

Haunted images of days gone by

Verbless stories, left uncompleted

Punctuated with each painful sigh

 

Twisted sheets and rumpled pillows

Testimony to the listening jury’s ears

Testified of love once stolen from a heart

Verdicts in, sentence rendered…forever tears.

Those memories must be very strong to overpower one's sleep. I remember having trouble sleeping over a problem at work or with someone, but that lasted only a night or two.

While my sleep is interrupted by physical concerns and hot and cold issues, I always wake up dreaming a new story that doesn't really have anything to do with my past but provides a great future for writing strange stories that come in the night.

Sweet dreams will come for you, I hope.

Oh no, Fe, not forever. Such a heart touching poem. The past is passed, we try to let it go. Sometimes we succeed and sometimes we have a sleepless night. You have captured it so well.
