Just a sea shanty I have been playing with...

 Come Hell or High Water

By Felix L. Perry

With luck tonight we’ll feast down at Privateer’s wharf

Heave hearty me boyos…let’s bring her around

We sail neath the black flag, pirates to a fault

Let’s put this storm behind, ‘cause we’re Halifax bound

Oh...come hell or high water we’ll make Halifax town

Heave hearty me boyos…let’s bring her around

The winds in the rigging, it’s time to go home

We’ll dance with the lassies, when we reach solid ground

Our holds are all filled, with a season’s booty of loot

Heave hearty me boyos…let’s bring her around

We pillaged and plundered on the Island’s fair seas

But the snap of the mainmast, was a frightening sound

It was off Sable Island, just a wee jag from home

Heave hearty me boyos, it’s to the devil we’re bound

We’ll never again dance with the ladies of old Halifax town

‘tis to a watery grave when off of Sable we drowned

Heave hearty me boyos…lets bring her around

Heave hearty me boyos…let’s bring her around

I have a weakness for pirate poetry and you are masterful at it, Fe. Really enjoyed your poem.

I so enjoyed this piece Fee! I could hear it in my mind being sung on board the old
Sailing ship…
Wonderful!
I love Sea Shanties…my Mum had a Sea Shanty book of Piano music when
I was a child, and she would play an assortment of the songs for me…
My favourites were HEART OF OAK, and MY BONNIE LIES OVER THE OCEAN…
We used to have a Sea Shanty Festival here in Hull, UK every year, and people from all over the World would travel to attend this wonderful event…sadly it’s no longer held…
I would love to read more of these pieces Fee, and I really love the swaying rhythm…!

Wonderful! I love ditties like this. Must be the Navy brat in me. I love the cadence and the "feel" of the poem. I can just hear it being sung aboard a schooner on the water somewhere.

Still Living on my Feet by Tichaona Chinyelu

Still Living on my Feet is the follow up to Tichaona Chinyelu’s first book, In the Whirlwind, which was rooted in a sense of hard-hitting revolutionary black love. However, in this sophomore effort, Tichaona brings the revolutionary essence from deep
