It is often said that a sailor mistress will always be the sea...

The Seaman's Widow By: Fee The sea was his mistress She always knew in her heart She had to share his love She knew from the very start Storm clouds on the horizon She watched his from ashore She held true to his promise She’d be his forever more His last kiss was his eulogy She knew when, years went by She knew he’d never return She tried so hard, not to cry Realization came, on that stony shore She stopped counting the years She still sings his sad sea shanties She wipes away her salt tears…

This "rings" close to my heart. My ancestors (including my grandfather whom I never met) were cod fishermen who sailed from Brittany, France to the Grand Banks of Newfoundland. Many lost their lives during those crossings. Thank you for sharing, Fee. Blessings to you,

And there were many of them during the wild days when only the sails propelled the ships into the seas both uncharted and with weather unknown. A very dangerous time to go to sea.

Your poem about sea widows' sorrow rings true to me.
