When the autumn reaps its flowers
and childhood
claims its due,
when all the fallen flowers
of all the years
come back to you,
the final judgement
weighs heavy;
the bent reeds
fall
and the root only stands
tall,
which is
bitterness
unpolished
no smooth edges here
only the deepest mark
shows
and retains
its self,
which stands
out
stark
among masks
and crowds
without the pretense
of an apology
always
right here
like
on the first day:
true colour, resistant
to time
Sweet-scented summer
led astray
Cherry-lipped strangers
led the way
Deep summer delayed
what ripe autumn betrayed
and its promise passed unfulfilled
into withered decay
your poses betray you
more than your wounds
your masks scream out
their secrets
your denial
ex-poses
and leaves nothing
to hide
raw hide
raw nerve
bare skin
gaping
absurdly
from behind painted lips
and rotten talk
small talk
and non-talk
and honeyed words
of obscene
innocence
of morbid holiness that reeks
just a little bit too much
of murder
no rain washes out
the root
mind you
it's the root that clings on to me
and I do not know why
It's the sunset that draws my blood
and will not let me die
