Some may not realize that the past few poems I have posted about war and such are from my book "Colored Snow Flakes." There was a lot going on in my teens that I needed to share with the world.
Off to War
There was the war in which I finally realized was a hazard to our lives When you don’t watch that black and white TV You miss out on what is going on in the world There was this thing called The Draft… Some young men ran to sign up while others ran away Those that ran did not always get out of the country, Imprisonment for them was the punishment Some made it to Canada where they were safe, But they lived poor Their families were devastated that they ran from duty Some family members even committed suicide They were shamed by their children’s actions. Many that really wanted to go had many physical problems They were not selected to go Anger grew among them Now we had a new set of Out -Laws 1969 was not such a good year Unless you did not watch the black and white TV And you spent all your time wrapped in a book
