Can a person have closure when the answers to her questions can no longer be answered by the living?

Will I Ever Have Closure?
By Barbara Lynn Terry

The things that happened to me in my life
were beyond my control. The bitter strife
I was forced to endure when I was but a child
should never have been because I was never wild.

I obeyed what I was told except for the one
thing that I had to be and that was this girl in me
but mother connived and my fate was done
and I was cast away like a stone in a pond.

In the institutions I cried and cried bitter tears
and was so afraid that I hid my constant fears
from those who would harm me
simply because they couldn't see the girl I be.

The abuses I suffered in these dark places
by those who have no faces
I should not have suffered at all
but should have been shopping at the mall.

Will I ever have the closure I so badly need?
The answer is no because no one will heed
the desperate cries of a little girl in bitter strife
who only wanted love and to live her life.

I will never have the closure so many others have
because mother never answered the questions I had
as to why she abandoned and disowned me
when all I wanted was to be this girl in me.

Why mother why, won't you give me the closure I need?
Please tell me what I did wrong in speech and deed.
Did you take out on me what my father did to you?
Do you hate me because of my male body too?

I have always been female in my soul
but I will never be complete and whole
because I cannot have the closure in my saddened state
because mother took those answers to her grave.

Your pain is evident , but by writing about it, I hope it will help to release some of the turmoil within. No one can answer or justify what your mother did. That was her guilt and pain that she thrust upon you for what ever reason she felt with in. It was not you who was to blame. It was her own misgivings and self doubt. Go forward and always look to the light. Talk and express your feelings . It will help. You can't answer the unanswerable...M

A very honest, painful and revealing piece of writing...I think that you can possibly still be 'whole and complete', because we all have that power inside of us to heal. I know it is not easy but with a shift in thinking it is more than possible. It is about 'letting go' sometimes..of the pain and heartache that keep us anchored in our world of sadness and grief.
My short story/poem Grandpa deals with a similar theme...of sometimes speaking the words for ourselves that the person who has died couldn't say,...or sometimes even know...
I wish you Peace and Happiness...
Love and Hugs, Diana...

I am sorry about others sins of the past. I think you have in you to rebound.

Barbara, there are undeniable forces at work inside of each one of us. You followed your truth and were so brave and authentic, bless you! I am sure I am one of many many people when I say I love you just the way you are, unconditionally. I'm sure your mother feels that way now, looking down, she must be wanting all good things in life and love for you. She must now be proud.
Be well,
Christine

Honest, harsh, and real, Barbara; and sadly, I am sure many can relate to not having "closure" on so many levels. Thank you for sharing this meaningful account born of painful experiences. Love and best wishes,

Regis
