My grandmother, whom I adored, died in January, 2000. I wrote this eulogy for her and read it at her funeral.
She possessed dignity and pride And truly walked in beauty. Had a kind word for everyone she knew, taking a genuine interest in each person she encountered. She had many friends, but no enemies. That was grandma. Her family was her pleasure in life. She loved to cook, and dance, and sing, and touch babies’ faces. She was a giver, but rarely a taker. That was grandma. She possessed strength and courage, gave good advice but never meddled. She harbored secrets we will never know and suffered in silence many times facing life’s trials with determination. Yet, she always remained beautiful. The stresses of life did not seem to touch her and if they did, it never showed. That was grandma. She decorated all of our lives with her beauty, her patience, her love. Her presence demanded respect from those around her. She had a sense of humor and her laughter was a joyous sound. Her face was like an angel, soft and beautiful. That was grandma. She was a rare human being and I am proud to have known her and have had her in my life. She was one of my greatest teachers. She has been here all of our lives, so not having her with us now seems unnatural. But in our hearts she will live forever. If I could describe love, It would be she, it IS grandma.
This poem resonates in my heart, for I was a gramma's girl; I shed a tear or two remembering her as I was reading your inspiring poem. A lovely tribute to someone who was very special in your life. A soft and tender read. Very good, Debra.
Debra this is a beautiful and moving tribute for an equally beautiful and moving lady. My grandmother was just a lady too. A very fin tribute by a very fine and talented granddaughter. I am sorry for your loss, and as you said tho; she is alive within you. May the Lord be with you always, and at your side constantly. With much love in my heart, joy to the world, peace on earth, & (((HUGS))), Barbie
It sounds like your grandma was an amazing woman but that is not surprising of the greatest generation. This was a lovely write.

So many heartfelt lines in this piece.
Deeply touching write and tribute. I especially liked the line: "Yet, she always remained beautiful." That line says so much.
A truly wonderful tribute to her, Debra, and this brought back many wonderful memories of my grandmother, who was also my mentor. May she live on in your heart forever.
