Little did we know
… the horrors of ending war.
Seemed thousands of troops would bleed
… through death’s open door
Before a single soldier set foot
… on Japan’s main shore.
Countless many more would have died,
… their lives lost in vain—
Charging island after island
… fighting Samuris inhumane—
Kamikaze Bushidos—
… death with honor, their highest gain.
In the U.S. the flashes
… were mere radio news facts.
In Japan the bombs killed 10,000s
… not engaged in combat.
Innocents could not run
… or lie flat in the killing zone—
No time to dodge searing heat
… melting flesh and bone.
What right hath foreign troops
… to steal land from other nations?
Or opposing armies to create
… such monstrous killing weapons?
‘Tis a hope such heinous ways
… mankind would dare not trod.
‘Twas a vicious slap in the face
… of our creating God!

The message could not be more important or more timely, and you
have conveyed it brilliantly.
So sad and frustrating to see war after war erupt.
Is studying history a total waste? I like to think not, but I have to admit, evidcence points that way.
