A tiny boy plays in my yard:
… Skinny, shirtless, restless.
A dog barks loudly, the young tot cries—
… His mother comes to dry his eyes;
… She kisses him they walk inside--
He's skinny, shirtless, hungry, restless.
An old man sits out in my yard
… Portly, tired, restless.
A squirrel scolds, the old man smiles—
… His love comes out to share the while.
… They chat of a day they walked the aisle;
He kisses her cheek, all’s been worthwhile.
If seventy years have been misplaced,
… For part, his love’s been interlaced.
The skinny, shirtless, restless tot
… Imagines her when he is naught.
