Love Is Make Believe
When you love
and lose your beloved,
the mists of death envelop you,
forcing you to feel life's over,
removing purpose from all you do.
illness is your constant bedfellow,
and ceaseless pain replaces sleep;
Inside you is an aching hollow
And though you want to,
you can't weep.
Happiness is a distant memory.
Effort is all requiring thought.
Bitterness distorts all beauty
to laugh in the face of all you were taught.
You voice your anger out aloud
before it explodes inside your head.
Loneliness is in a crowd.
Death becomes life, and life is dead.
Two (it had to be that number),
years go by;
before the mists begin to rise,
peace awakens eternal slumber
and life opens up its weary eyes.
Suddenly, it's less you're grieving,
and all that you've learned to hate and despise
becomes the focus of your healing
and serves to only make you wise.
Now you feel your ‘self’ returning
and no longer seem to endlessly grieve,
except for all the time you've wasted
believing that Love was make-believe.
I too have been there more times than I have fingers! But what a feeling love.........

How perfectly true.I have Been there and you have captured the pain and numbness very well.The mist of death was a great line.As was the ending.The last stanza is right on the money. Good stuff. Gregg
