Chewing on a Coney Island hotdog smothered with mustard & sauerkraut on a bun
Choosing the best garlic pickles from a barrel; tasting a potato knish, a very salty one!
The roar and the thunder from the Cyclone roller coaster; kids yelping “No, no, no!”
Hearing a distant “Clink-click-CLINK-clack-clack-CLACK!” and “Whoa, whoa, whoa!”
Gliding our way through the House of Horrors, hearing many screams and shouts
The sun baking down on the backs of bathers while the tide slowly rolls in and out
Tasting some salt water taffy, smelling fresh cotton candy and cooling off with a blue snow cone
Resting on a blanket under the boardwalk; listening to the clopping noises of folks strolling above
A biplane buzzes by with a big banner full of advertisement flapping brilliantly in the sky
A man shouts, “Ice cream and orange drinks here” some folks wave him on, others pass him by
Munching on salty, crispy, crinkle-cut French fries stuffed over the top in a paper cone
Walking on the shaded cool sand near the pier with a friend, late in the day, all alone
Staring at sailboats coming in at days end before the darkness shadows the light
Watching an orange disk of fire sinking slowly in the water; what a glorious sight!
These are the sights, smells, sounds and feelings from the old Coney Island I recall
We were teens back then in a big happy playground, living it up, having a ball!
