The Song Undone and Haunting

I claw his name into stone.
Piercing marks, fading blood stains
Cling to ragged bone -
An attempt to mourn soured in daylight,
Watching it die, strangled by convolutions and disappointments;
The blinders are torn and I can see through my tears,
The half-truths pained in disillusion
As I come to rest at the center of the labyrinth.
This is where he belongs, contained within the puzzle
Of my mystery, deep in the dark core,
The stark resting place where my lovers are buried
One by one, lined up in a row with etched stone,
Scattered with bits of my heart, torn fragments pulsing
Out a rhythm, the song undone and haunting…
He’s poisoned us with evasiveness,
Ground my feelings into dust, cracked our foundation –
Weeds are growing in the field, but not even they
Can wind their way past the walls I’m building.
Cerberus guards the gate, protecting me in this hollow
While I gouge the words, dripping,
“A Star always loved but set to rest.”
