the night a long, dim, road

Poem Artwork

Sitting alone in an empty house,
dawn yet hours away
thoughts like bouncy balls
reverberate off skull bones.
It is too quiet, to lonely
the night a long, dim, road
going night, by long night
into eternity, without a ripple.
Yet the life goes on, punctuated
brightly with an occasional visit
from grandkids who are a treat
and children who are
preoccupied with their own busy lives.
Sleep is finally an escape, from the stillness,
But the morning light brings a promise
Soon, it is again the quiet wait
yet another night to be endured.
