Seeing the invisible

Meeting god from his perspective

His arms raised in supplication to invisible gods
mumbled words, just nonsense really,
escaped in whispers to his demanding deity.

Others avoided his differentness, his strange delusion
his odor wafted on the evening breeze
a strong smell of dirty feet and not easily ignored!

He was barely aware of the nurses and doctors
who offered him poisons wrapped up like meds
running away, when they approached

Their fancy words of forced meds, mental  illness,
legal commitment, and courts dates fell on ears
already full of many voices. Unable to discern their reality!

Mom gave him clean food, clean water
clothes free of microphones . Still, she could not see
his true destiny, the gods watch her closely for signs of betrayal.

Its morning,  he sits on the edge of his bed, rocking . Eyes closed
conversations between him and his maker growing louder,
and soon staff gathered in his room, with needles and meds

Later, much later he awoke to the light of dawn
His eyes saw an austere room, with his belongings strewed
he felt where the needles had pricked, then an image
did he have a dream of Gods kingdom?

He felt hungry and in need of a bath
and smiled at a passing nurse who looked delighted
he rose to meet the day!

This hits hard when someone you love endures such halucinations and terrors in his daily life. I can picture you sharing information such as this with your nurse-students. May God bless your efforts to educate and prepare them to deal with the needy ones who await them.
Connie
