Death should be a time of mourning

Poem Artwork

Death should be a time of mourning

But what usually transpires is rather alarming

Relatives who have their own agendas

Seek out their individual vendettas

By demanding what they may receive by means of money or possessions

Never seeming to care that their actions may be ill transgressions

A daughter suddenly fights with a son

Over any possession they may consider won

By reason of their mere existence

Or for purpose of additional assistance

After all each considers their reasons to be honorable

Because perhaps entitlement is not considered to be deplorable

After all, was their parent not to provide them riches?

Even though in life, the love their parents may have had for them, had no hitches.

For the loved ones and friends left behind

Who became closer to the deceased than those now in line

You watch the scramble to take what they feel is theirs

While their loved ones and friends look at them in despair

For those of you who consider your affairs to be in order

And that death surely is not on your boarder

Watch and observe those attending a funeral

And note the emotions of those who may not be vulnerable

One never knows when one’s time is near

Or when accident or illness may be here

Make certain your loved ones will not suffer

The consequences of those who appear tougher

Those who feel they may take what they deserve

Leaving your loved ones without reserves

Make certain you protect your spouse

By making certain they have a house

And an income in which they may survive

By insurance and annuities while they are alive

And list by reasons of a will or written notarized document

Those possessions which are to remain with your loved ones without further comment

And do not allow your children to take such possessions away from a remaining mother or father

Whether it be a home, those items you have shared or even the rights on water

Those who remain must be left with the comforts you have enjoyed as one

Because your loved one must now go into a future which inevitably has come

With losing not only your love, companionship and rapport

But for which you assured they may not lose their means of support

I appreciate the manner in which you took a situation that sooner or later all of us face, and made it accessible to many who might never consciously prepare to mourn. Thank you for putting into choice words something we all need to ponder.

Death is a time of mourning, but few people realize this and only contend with their own interests. You said it all and this is such a good write and piece of advice to all. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on death.

How perfect. My boyfriend committed suicide three weeks ago. The family has turned horrible scrambling to get what they can.Unfortunatly we werent married ,but lived together. So I am entitled to nothing. To watch the family fight over things is sad.Esp when he was not close to his family at all....it saddens me..and I know he would be so dissapointed in them. Me I just wish he was here..thats all I want..sigh.

Good, sound advice to share and I might add for those making wills, choose wisely who will execute or you might find yourself betrayed....

Be always safe,
Karen
