The Offcomer

Bird watchers have recorded in the past few years a species on Sandpiper native to the Mississippi Delta and the river estuaries of the South East U.S.A. nesting in the sand dunes and mud flats of England’s Noth West Coast, an alien and hostile environment for them.

Little offcomer,
what brought you to
this unfriendly shore.
Blown by maverick winds
to rest and nest
in this strage land,
far from the feeding grounds
and safe havens generations
of your kind have found.
You belong in a delta
far away in the west
but were blown to this shore
by a maverick wind
fanned by human hands.
