Rape
Monsters spearing flesh to satisfy,
Abnormal obsession by.
Victim’s pain and terror will be,
Death’s distraught intensity.
Sadistic intentions clear,
Destroying that held dear.
Claws ripping savagely,
Desperation seeks to flee.
Savage penetration deep,
The soul begins to weep.
Tearing flash of agony,
Torturous images to see.
Inner workings of the mind,
Hidden deep so not to find.
Evil lives within,
The mind a monster’s den.
Trembling terror to behold,
Leaping out at times untold.
Pounding heart, sweating brow,
Sanity will leave you now.
You've captured the life-devastation in your poem, and specifically, in the last line: "Sanity will leave you now".
AuthorsDen writer Jeanette Cooper uses 332 pages to unfold the story in her brilliant novel, "When Justice is Served."
I give it two treatments: In my posted story-poem "And Lead Us Not..." I suggest the mental suffering which flows from it. In my novel "The Paradise of Revenge," I spend 572 pages exploring in depth the trauma-generated psychosis of the primary victim, the emotional agony of the wife of the innocent but convicted rapist, and the tortuous life endured by the young son of the innocent rapist.
Rape is a horrendous crime with untoward personal and emotional ramifications.
Your closing line says it all: "Sanity will leave you now."
A brave and meaningful offering, Elizabeth.
