A mind retreats into darkness...Dedicated to a dear friend who I pray will someday come back to the light...

Shattered

Shattered, shards fly off without care.
Pieces of life no more can bare;
Large and small, they lay scattered,
Once whole, now shattered.

The mind all broken and torn,
Retreating inside, no more can be born.
Lucidity hidden behind walls of stone,
Hiding from pain, hiding alone.

The silence is loud, eyes dry of tears.
The mind now unable to care.
A blank slate, wiped clean;
Nothing left to redeem.

"Lucidity hidden behind walls of stone"... sometimes reality is simply too much, too hard, too painful to deal with. That's when "silence" becomes "loud", a good image indeed! I can imagine the world of someone for whom everything has simply become unbearable.

Greetings,

Axilea

I have felt this way before and it is not fun. It takes a lot of pain to face the pain in order to make it back to the light, if only for a short time. Very insightful and compassionate. so sad. Excellent. Liz

such a sad state-i think all know how it feels and hope she soon feels well and gets back on her feet so to speak-a very understanding write of what depression can do to someone

Rlizabeth reading this was like looking into a mirror at my own heart and soul this morning. Sometimes when our world starts falling apart we actually welcome the dark and the quiet solitude it affords. Thank you for orating so well how I feel today...

This is very sad, Elizabeth. I know the pain and terror and hopelessness of seeing a friend disappear into the deep, dark caverns of their own mind. You expressed this very honestly and eloquently.
