After the angel had taken her hand and led her towards the promise land--- what could she have wanted back there?
Was she concerned about the men whose very sin had brought on the city's demise? Or was she trying to see firsthand the anger from God's hand when the fire and sulphur rained from heaven?
Didn't she have everything she needed? By her side were her husband and daughters--- those that she loved with her whole heart... or was it just with a part, because something still made her feel incomplete.
It seems that she forgot that Sodom had tried to rape her angelic guests and though it seemed to have the best of everything was a place that had spiritually nothing.
Did Lot's wife lose her life for something temporary that wouldn't stand the test of the judgment fire?
Or was her salty punishment fueled by a pattern of lusting and wrong desires?
You see, her motives are important to me as I find myself living in a world of false realities like she did. There is so must eye candy around that what is true is sometimes hard to be found among the delicious lies that we partake of everyday.
Am I ready for my judgment? Since I have enjoyed a little of this and a lot of that, will I be prepared for my own accounting? I don't want to be so lost in who I am trying to be that I'm blind to see the downfall of the world in which I am creating for myself.
Don't get me wrong: I love nice things and all the attention my little successes seem to bring, but do those things define me? I hope not.
Because if they do then everything I have chosen to pursue leads to nothing better than the wife of Lot. And I'll find myself begging for more time and trying to gather what wasn't mine in this life and escape. Running, running, running to a safety that doesn't even exist, and at the end of the day I'll look back and accept my own destiny.
And then maybe--- just maybe--- the question will be on your mind: I wonder what made him look back?
Cyprus, you are a wonder! What a poignant write! It made me dash out of my study room and go look in the mirror! Most powerful message ever!

I like this poem also. It is odd i was thinking of just this same thing the other day. I think that when Lots wife looked back it simply demonstrated human nature. To be disobediant to God and i think it was her way of looking back on her past. Instead of moving forward. I think we need to learn from our past, forgive those who have hurt us , and move forward. We cant move forward if we are looking back. Her reasons may never be known...but it was a great expression on your part.
Ah, a man of similar ilk... One who questions, a fellow thinker... (Don't stop.) Continue to seek enrichment, my friend, for therein lie the answers. (But you knew that.)
