Oh, to live simply as did Thoreau In a cabin beside a pond Personal time unobstructed, my thoughts could come and go unforgotten in the bussle of life Instantly remembered on paper with ink Oh, that my life could be that simple Such a luxury to acquire such solitude uncluttered in space and time I too could observe the human machine I might also decide that the masses Indeed live quiet desperate lives And in all that solitude Fail to hear the, not so quiet, desperate cries.
That's the life, close to nature, in the mountain greenery beside the lake or river. We need to get back to the garden was the mantra in the Sixties and it's still relevant today, more than ever.
i really like the soul of this poem ... it's placement of time and solitude and the observation that the human machine is infused with desparation and lonliness ...
