Midnight Song

I woke up singing to Jesus tonight --
I had gone to bed around ten;
The prayers of my heart were hidden and mute;
I had been far too tired just then.

A season of rest and refreshing sleep
was all that I really required;
When I awoke with His Name on my lips,
He sent down His heavenly fire!

I love to awake with a song;
It's filling my heart with His praise;
Restoring my soul in wondrous love
as the anthems of worship I raise.
And Jesus, receiving my song,
is pleased when I sing love to Him;
For He is the One who gave me the song
when He loved me and carried my sin.

The words, as I sing them, express my joy
in Jesus, and how He came down.
He brought forgiveness and freedom to me,
and someday He'll give me a crown!

He whispers His love at morning and noon,
and gives me His songs in the night.
I'll never stop singing praise to the Lord;
He's my music, my joy and delight!

"The Lord your God is with you, He is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."
