Drive-in movies. . . ; pack 'um in!
Mom and dad were kissing if they backed her in!
Jammies on and pillows donned our station wagon, then . . .
Now the ole' jalopy, drives, nonstop, in moving memories of when!
When, off to church, the two, steering their separate ways . . .
Dad being Catholic, with the drive to see us pray!
Back and forth, to C.C.D. . . .
My Catechism blues . . . "Get back in that house, Missy, that dress is way too short! "
Uniforms and assigned seating . . . yup . . . the little ones in back!
Off to Dorney Park, the zoo. . . Sunday drives around the block, and back!
I miss our wagon . . . her wood paneling and all!
I remember once my brother drove her. . . tore up our neighbor’s lawn!
And I remember every dent!
I know, I know . . . Mom wasn't a very good manuever-er when it was moving. . . She was Protestant!
It was in the mid-1960s when we packed our four kids, popcorn and punch in our Ford station wagon and took off even before dark to one of the local drive-in movie theatres. (All but one are gone now.)
It was a wonderful time that got even better after the two youngest ones dozed off for the evening and the chatting died down.
Next I suppose you'll be bringing us tales about The Lone Ranger!

OK Missy with the skirt too short, figure this, back from WWII, a second hand 1941 Oldsmobile station wagon (the one with the exterior wooden panels that was called then The Land Yacht) and a growing German shepherd puppy dog that eventually would take all the back section!

I protest... that dent! Station wagons seem to be more versatile than SUVs. After my hands/arms were paralyzed, Dad made me have my date drive our 57 Buick wagon. After the submarine races, she drove into the speaker post--big dent. I drove her home.

What lovely touch...and memories...and that wicked clincher at the end...there used to be a list of the various religious attitudes doing the rounds and I do remember a few: Zen - what is the sound of s..t happening?; Judaism - why does s..t always happen to us? and Protestantism - let s..t happen to someone else...

Protestants are prone to severe mood swings. I was brought up Pentecostal and also nurtured in the Evangelical Free Church. The Pentecostals taught me how to dance and speak in tongues and the Free Church - well - all I remember is Missy in the choir. She was stacked and six years older than me. We used to make out across the street from the church.
Now that was a LaBumba vehicle. An imitation woody that was as heavy as all get out. Rock the Casbah ...

Oh my, what a land yacht...my dad had a Ford wagon that size & we did the same kinds of things, though my MOM didn't drive very much, fortunately...;-) ed
