To go to college and to pursue….any educational quest

Necessitates going through preliminary wickets, of which one is a test.

The SAT is an indicator. At least,….(if nothing else)

That you know the square of the hypotenuse…and all the math it tells.

To deliver a letter you don’t need math…if you can match an envelope’s number

To the digit on the recipient’s dwelling. It doesn’t get much dumber.

Yet, before the Postal Service turns you loose….to deliver one lousy letter

You’ve got to prove your mettle with a grade of  70 or better.

To be a pro ballplayer and hit home runs for a living

One needs to do precisely the opposite of what is normal giving.

An indicator of success in baseball is to fail 70% of the time,

Yet to do so, qualifies one for Halls of Fame. Higher you can’t climb.

To be a lawyer, you must drink in the law, steadfastly remaining sober

While convincing a jury of your smarts……then, consequently show per

Superior application of the law at hand….convincing the jury to render

A verdict attesting to your skills, that declares you a master Bar tender.

The test for a doctor is easy. If an operation you do not shun

And make it out of the hospital, then recover….the doc’s test is done.

Overall, you don’t care how the doc did in school. He graduated School of Med.

Then passed YOUR test. Your appendix is gone and Eureka!…you ain’t dead.

But there is one job in this country, for which there is no test.

And there is only one way to judge…to see if the holder has messed

Up the world when he’s done. We need to test competency before the fact

To avoid another untested President…caught between a hard place and Iraq.
