And We Believed

The savior of our problems of country
His wife walking four steps behind
Designer gowned and shod
At a cost of thousands of dollars and they
Dine at an up-scale restaurant
Then attend the theater
Going to and fro in a shiny limo
While gasoline prices continue to soar
The grocer asks four dollars for a tomato
A baking potato a dollar seventy-five
Major automobile manufacturers facing bankruptcy
Two of my neighbors foreclosed on now homeless
Another, a laid-off exec, his car repossessed
"Out of Business" signs popping up around the town
Even the Goodwill store can't pay the rent
There were seven now but two gas stations remain
The value of my home half what it was
The cost of heating twice as much
The word "stimulus" sticks in my throat
All in the name of us being saved
And he's only just begun.

Two years and 6 months since you posted this, sadly it could have just as well been yesterday. I will not point a finger - at least not until I draw the curtain in a voting booth.

...AND WE BELIEVED...AND YOU ARE RIGHT...WE DID. BUT THEN...WHY NOT? FOR EIGHT YEARS WE ACCEPTED ... AND WE TOLERATED...'AND WE BELIEVED' SO NOW, WE MUST CONTINUE TO 'BELIEVE' AND 'PRAY' FOR THE ONE THAT STEPPED FORTH, INHERITING, THE ATROSITIES THAT WE AS A NATION MUST ENDURE FROM THE 'PREVIOUS' LEADER. HE IS DOING HIS BEST AND SURELY WE CANNOT EXPECT THAT HE CAN CHANGE IN SIX MONTHS...WHAT WE HAVE 'ALLOWED' TO 'FESTER' FOR EIGHT YEARS. AND YES...A LIMOUSINE IS THE 'USUAL' MODE OF TRAVEL FOR THE PRESIDENT OF THE US...PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE HOWEVER, AS I REMEMBER, THEY DID NOT RIDE TO THE WHITE HOUSE ON INAUGURATION DAY THEY 'WALKED'...SIDE BY SIDE. I BELIEVE THAT WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE...HOW ABOUT YOU? YES..WE..CAN! GOOD RIGHT WITH A HONEST EXPRESSION OF FEELINGS THAT WAS CERTAINLY DONE WELL. THANKS FOR SHARING AND BLESSINGS.

I hear your heart and you know how I feel about it. All i can say is that time will certainly, and clearly, expose what is in the heart and soul of these you speak of. Stand Strong and always express your convictions!

I must agree with Lew on this one...these are very difficult times, but, every American MUST pull together and put our differences aside...we need to try and help whoever is in office to get us through!

Your poem speaks for every generation to come...in hopes, they can look back on our wrongdoings, the lack of self discipline, the seething greediness of those in charge, right down to the dysfunctional family units...if there even is a unit left!
Buying above our means...Oh! the list goes on!
I, guilty as the next!

Look back when the man was the bread winner and the woman watched and reared the children...when the handshake was good enough, and Sunday Schools where safe...when kids could pray in their schools.
Look back at the respect our parents received for their hard work and honest living, back when neighbors played cards together and the community clubhouses had sailboat races at the local lake.
It will never be that way again, but it made a lot more sense. Soon we will be printing worthless money...now wait, I think that's already being done!
Archives of the Great Depression, resurfacing...its sad.
You got me going, Marcia~
Great pen!
Love and Peace~

Sad times, Marcia. However, let us not pin this on one man. Our redemption is going to take a joint effort by us all. Do you think we can put aside our differences long enough to pull together?
God bless,
Lew

Whose stimulus?!? Certainly not mine: grateful, but what can a one time payment of $250.00 do to lift me out of poverty? What can a one time payment do to assuage the pain of those who've served and came home, disabled? The government, meanwhile, is bailing out Big Business with BILLIONS - seems we, the elderly, the poor, the disabled, Veterans!! are just an afterthought...your rant is mine, Marcia. Believe me.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla. :(

Waiting on said payment now, so I can get some food!!!!

Our nation is in the midst of an economic storm that has challenged us all and will continue to make its presence known. My heart breaks for the children, the homeless, the broken, and the confused people of our land. We need the fires of revival and the flame of hope to keep us going in these hard times. Passions run high when blood runs on the street.

Things could be worse. At least, he doesn't murder tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis.

I must agree and it's scarey to think he has just begun. A stimulus for whom, is what one should ask now.

Where is Hanging Judge Beam when one needs one?
Old cynical me looking from Sweden I don't see no salvation but the building of another Titanic...this time without life boats!

"And he's only just begun" Like an extra couple of hundred is going to buy back the house, the car and help the out of work mother and father feed their family for a year. So, the question begs, "Whose stimulus?"
