I hate to say it--but we all know someone who needs to learn this lesson--either let go and let God, or relax, relate and release! LOL! Hope you enjoy this piece.
I held onto…
All of the slights
And all of their pain;
All of the loss
And all of its shame;
All of the anger
And all of its hurt
All the resentment
And its ugly dirt
All of the treachery
And all of its scars
All of the misery…
Until it was hard--
To run like an arrow
To walk tall and proud
I sunk, bent with burden
My speech cried out ‘foul’
Eventually I slumped
Then fell down so low
I was buried beneath
That torture that flowed
From all of that mass
A lifetime of hate
Pursuit of sweet vengeance
That helped to create
Disease in my heart
That could not be cleansed
Except by a breath--
Sweet oxygen again
So I carved a tunnel
Though it all now was stone
Lined it with sound doctrine
And this lesson learned--
That what I can’t change
I’ll just leave alone
And that which I can
I’ll work on and own.
Another excellent poem, Wendy. Forgiveness is key. Still many don't seem to understand the concept and claim they can't forgive, then they wonder why sickness abounds! Oh, you're very good!
Amen to this write!

A further collection of poems, many from years in the Middle East, but also the California San Francisco and Central Coast areas (Santa Cruz, Carmel, Big Sur, Berkeley, etc.).
Questions, unquestioned discoveries, and answers in parable and rhyme…. This collection records a journey starting with a 1960s retrospective and the first man on the moon, moving to a new millennium welcomed in with a terrorist spin, family crises,
