The earth moved under my feet on that day.
It was a quake.
Living high upon a mountaintop and in a shelter, I was not prepared.
I had my belongings on a shelf
My greatest gifts were on display
Meaning my soul, my smiles, my happiness and my joy
But when the earth shook
I was not prepared
The items on my shelf began to shake, too.
One by one
They began to fall onto the floor of my shelter
But the floor that I kept meticulously clean
Was not there
It had sunk
When the earth broke into two.
All of my greatest gifts were swallowed away by the earth
Gone was my happy, soulful self.

Outside my little shelter is a rock
The rock stands tall, firm and solid
I left my shelter that was destroyed
I left behind the dust from those gifts I once had
I climbed upon the welcoming rock
And it embraced me.

It’s solidness nurtures me, though it sprouts no food
It’s firmness awakens my senses, yet it shows no expression of it’s own.
It is a foundation
For which I am to build and re-build on
To do what I must
And to do what I will
To love in the way I know best
To be who I am
My rock.
My husband.
