Not To Be



(thoughts after a student's suicide)

When I heard the news
I tried to picture her face in my mind’s eye
eyes full of life igniting her precious visage
Ophelia’s handful of flowers.

a dip into the sea of sorrows
swallows some,
turning cannons towards self-slaughter

perhaps I should have taught her
that some questions
are not
meant
to be
answered.
