Remembering a lost love.

You never even looked back.

Oh, I know that you are better off without me in your life.   I know now, what I didn’t know then, that you couldn’t keep room in your life for me, as even a friend.

You had to devote 100% of yourself to your new life and an old memory like me was a burden you couldn’t carry with you.

Your heart called you off to begin a new life with an old love, a love even older than what we once shared.

I always told you that he would find you, that your prince charming was out there and some day the two of you would meet.

You thought you were cursed, you thought your soulmate would never find you.

I suppose that is why you stepped down from your pedestal to dance with me for a brief while, you must have thought I was somewhat better than nothing.

Somewhat.

What a churning mess my heart was.  I wanted you, loved you and worshipped you, but never were you mine.

I hope that at the very least, I was a pleasant diversion for you.

I hope, well, I suppose it doesn’t matter what I hope.

I was such an incredible idiot.  I thought that we would forever be friends. I thought we would always share a closeness and a unique bond of special friends.

I thought somehow, you would have room in your heart for me, along with your new love and that I would always be your friend.

Baby, when you left it took the breath from my lungs.  So sudden, such a shock, I was alone again.

I was happy for you.  Honestly, I was ecstatic.

I saw love and hope glimmering in your eyes and that made me happy.

When you left, I felt a bitter pang in my soul.

You never even looked back.

Not a single backward glance.

Not a smile.

Not even a subtle glance acknowledging my pain.

You simply fled as fast as your feet could carry you.

I see you now and then, as strangers we meet and there is an odd emptiness between us.

I can’t help but wonder, now that you walk in the world of the beautiful people, as well you should, do you laugh at me?

Does mirth bubble to the surface of your mind when you think of the times we spent together?

Am I a joke from your past, or do you even remember me at all.

Did you ever look back?

Do you even remember?

As long as it has been, have you ever looked back?

I don't think she deserves much consideration. Egoism is to be abhorred. Victor
