Where Love Lives On
I laid me down
in the circle of his arms
and I thought
if only this would not end
I knew it must indeed end
for does anything last forever?
not childhood nor home
not joy, nor pleasure
yet home is still a place
that draws us back
to green meadows
and sod roofed cottages
where fire always blazed
on a stone hearth
then we discover that
love does last forever
now we are gray
the both of us and slow
remembering passion's fire
and the circle of his arms
in pools of azure eyes
I see ever-burning flames
does he glimpse them in mine?
for they still burn for him
oh, Love, remember me
with tendrils of red falling loose
and eyes of emerald fire
in your heart where love lives on
Your poems are so real and easy to read that they follow to usually easy conclusion. But in this case you end with a plea as though something will break the spell and only love will be left when you are gone?
