I'VE LIVED TOO LONG TO CARE
I’ve seen the grand schemes and great structure,
Built upon the dreams of others,
Their foundations shifting…
At the sound of ignorance,
I’ve lived too long to care.
We toiled and turned for years on end,
To dress our child in rags of trend,
To pat ourselves along the back,
To end in vain, our hearts to rend,
I’ve lived too long to care.
To think, to wonder, to gather then,
To laugh, to hold, to remember when,
But love and friends were naught but lore,
I’ve lived too long to care.
And now my shell, my cloak but gone,
My schemes, my structure, but forlorn,
My present and my future torn,
I’ve lived too long to care.
And weaker do my visions grow,
My end, its toil, is thus bestowed,
Upon a hearth, my ashes seal,
Remnants of life’s daffodils.
