Perhaps By Chance I’ll Walk With Thee
I walk among this lonely grotto
As whispers haunt me as they mock me
Whisper forth sweet darlings, echo forth my children
Far in the north there is a well
That cast no shadow as far as I can tell
Much like the beacons of my night
Where angels walk, absent from sight?
Mark my words in tongues I speak
My hand, is my virtue as I sleep
As the wolves howl in the moonlight
Beckon forth my lonely traveller
Sombre mourn as I awake
Fools step with feeble toes
My crypt, I keep when you impose
Sense in life I leave behind
To walk beneath the stars so fine
Like the shadows of my feet
I have walked alone my lonely sweet
Through the valley among the trees
Where now I rest in open ease
There is life with no surprise
As I’ve walked among this sheltered life
Once I walked a lonely tread
Thoughts would rattle in my stead
To stab at thee with cross and bow
Perhaps by chance I’ll walk with thee
Thine own hand hath cast thy spell
To slip away void of shell
