Steve Irwin, achieved world wide fame for his efforts in conservation. This poem is in memory of 'The Crocodile Hunter'

NATURE'S HERO

On a reef in far north Queensland,
Filming creatures of the deep,
And casting every doubt and fear aside,
A champion of the animals
Approached eternal sleep.
We will not forget the day Steve Irwin died.

His friendly way of speaking,
No matter whom he met,
Endeared him to the wealthy and the poor.
The kind of special person
Whom we never will forget;
A dinkum Aussie hero to the core.

He was born in Nineteen Sixty two
On Queensland's Sunshine Coast.
His father, Bob, then owned a reptile farm.
Steve grew to love all animals;
But crocodiles the most.
We never thought he'd come to any harm.

He built the humble reptile park
To what it is today.
And year by year we watched it as it grew.
Now tourists by the thousands
Travel northward on their way
Up to the world renowned Australia Zoo.

We saw him in the movies
We watched him on TV,
His wild adventures earned him world wide fame.
We hailed him as a hero,
Which he never claimed to be.
'Twas said of him, "He's plucky and he's game."

An avid conservationist,
A true blue Aussie bloke,
He gave his calling everything he had,
A real wildlife adventurer
Who loved a timely joke;
But most of all, Steve Irwin was a dad.

His little daughter Bindi
Was the apple of his eye,
With Bob, his toddler son, not far behind.
Whenever he was far away
Or when he was close by,
His family was always on his mind.

We've all heard Bindi speaking;
So confident is she.
She promised to fulfil her father's dream;
A host of wildlife warriors
Is what Steve wished to see,
A veritable conservation team.

But Bindi's only eight years old
And though she's very brave,
We know her situation's rather sad,
For while she has Mum Terri
To help her face the waves,
She'll sorely miss her hero and her Dad

Although her hero's left us,
His spirit still remains.
His work will carry on just as before.
The work he did for nature
Will reap eternal gains
And his memory will live for evermore
