I hate it
when you stand behind me
like a sentry,
and go when I go,
and stop when I stop,
as if you will lay down your life for me,
but when I get in trouble
you do nothing
but stand and stare.
Through towns and cities
you follow me like air, or wind,
or like a jealous wife
protecting her husband.
Through journeys far and near,
you follow me doggedly,
like a faithful servant,
or like a devoted guard,
but when I need help
you play mute, burying
your face in the ground.
In the morning
you are there with me,
at midday
you are there with me,
but at nightfall
when my legs are tired
and I need a helping hand,
you are not there.
You varnish into the night
without saying goodbye;
and I know, when tomorrow comes,
you will be at my door
waiting for me
with hands full of roses,
hoping to fool me again.
I have learnt my lessons.
I have learnt never to trust someone
who loves to see me suffer,
someone who goes to bed
dreaming of my death.
I have learnt not to depend
on the cloud, or the wind
to do for me
something I can do
myself.
Still..its better than having a monkey on your shoulder because you'd have its shadow as well, and wouldnt that confuse things,,lol
great write,,sharp pen. loved it.
A trusting person is so rare these days, exceptional poetry that points out the dangers of being taken in.

Darn, man, you knew my first wife also, eh?
Ah, this whole poem is a metaphor and a darn good one at that. When time are good friends flock around. Let problems arise and, for the most part, you stand alone and friendless.
There are some exceptions to this premis, but not all that many I've found. Good work.
I met Jerome on a busy city street in Baltimore, Maryland, when he was forty-five years old. On that particular day, I was out and about, enjoying a much-needed day off from work.
I wanted to purchase a sukiyaki sub. I parked my car in an area of
