whisking away breath from the tiniest lungs
Carrying with you the pitter patter of heartbeats
You came as an angel in disguise
Taking warmth from frail bodies
Sucking out the sound of soft cries
Capturing all hope those little ones bring
You came as a wolf in sheep's clothing
Tearing away the thought of kisses
Making the emptiness of hunger your home
Stiffening the walk that was never walked

I am so sorry for your loss. We have raised and loved 9 Rottweilers in the past 14 years. We lost mom and son within 48 hrs. of each other and the second son exactly one year later. Dad left us the two years before that. We had a healthy 9 month old go outside and one minute later just laid down and died. Another died from Parvo at 9 months. We now have a rescue Rottie who was severly abused, a nine month old, who is a little spit fire and my boy, A wonderful 7 yr. old. I can't tell you the pain will go away but it will age like wine, always there but softer with time. A wonderful poem you penned.
