Chère Maman

Remembering Mom on the anniversary of her passing.


Chère Maman

 

Aujourd’hui c’est l’anniversaire du jour

Quand tu nous quittées pour toujours

Mais, ce qui reste c’est ton amour

Qui nous enveloppe tous les jours

 

Papa t’a toujours bien aimée

Toute jeune il t’a connue et mariée

De Tunis à Beja il t’a amenée

Ou tout le monde t’a adorée

 

Tes voisines et tes voisins

Tous t’estimaient bien

Ils te demandaient conseil

Juifs ou Arabes, c’était pareil

 

Tous t’admiraient pour ta beauté

Pour ton soin et ta générosité

Papa pensait que tu te maquillais

Tu lui as montré qu’il se trompait

 

Pour chacun de tes dix enfants

Tu étais une excellente maman

Pour moi, tout particulièrement

Surtout que je n’étais pas gourmand

 

Tu m’as amené voir trois docteurs

Pour essayer de me rendre mangeur

Ils t’ont rassurée que je me portais bien

Malgré que je ne mangeais presque rien

 

Tu as prié les mamans de mes amis

De toujours offrir à manger à ton fils chéri

Surtout la maman de mon ami Victor Bijaoui

Né le même jour, par la même sage-femme, aussi

 

Tu m’envoyais toujours apporter avec soin

Des provisions à ceux qui en avaient besoin

Tout le monde t’aimait, à Beja, à Gabes, à Tunis,

A Hamam Lif, A Souk el Arba et Souk el Khemis

 

Tu savais cuisiner à merveille –

Tes bons plats étaient sans pareils

Le Shabbat ton frigo était bien rempli

Pour toujours bien accueillir tes petits

 

Combien tu nous manques, ma chère maman

Je t’aime et je pense à toi à tout instant

Je te bénis souvent, de tout mon cœur

Tu es la fondation de mon bonheur
