Simple volunteer firefighters
Yet always on call both day and night
They ask for nothing in return
While trying to do what is right
When an alarm comes in, Dear Lord
That calls them to put out the flame
Watch over them diligently
For they do battle in Your name
And should someone need to be found
In the smoke swirling all about
Give them the extra strength they need
To quickly get that person out
Grant them invincible courage
Help them put aside all their fears
Let the sound of the weakest cry
Carry quickly to their keen ears
Help them to always remember
The special skills that they've been taught
The skills it takes to save a life
While the battle is being fought
Once the fierce flames have been knocked down
And all the smoke's been cleared away
They thank You very gratefully
That no lives have been lost this day
Then back to their jobs or their homes
Ever ready for the next tone
Again they send their thanks to You
For never leaving them alone

Very nice, Paul, and wow, is it appropriate in my home town right now! One arsonist was arrested after several fires within a short radius, some just hours apart. Hopefully, they will be able to learn if he is the culprit who set all of the 7 recent fires, or if there were others.

A great tribute to a worthy bunch. My nephew is a volunteer firefighter. My great uncle was a fire chief. He had a condition similar to black lung from all the exposure to smoke. Fortunately it didn't hold him back, and he died at 98.

Back in the day - Depression - this was common. There were no high paid fire fighters. Everyone pooled together in town to help one another. It was the natural, sensible and the right thing to do. These days we still have some good folks but it's a 20/80 mentality. That is 20 percent do the work for the rest. So it goes...
When two men hit the reset button and decide to go out looking for the good in the world, they not only find it but also a lot more.
