When she worked the graveyard shift
and he was in work mode
she got tired and ran away
she left us all alone

we were seven almost eight
with no cares in the world
that August day the sun went out
my childhood nearly unfurled

I grew up way too fast
with no one in the lead
I was young and confused
I got this isn't what I need

I learned to exist in silence
to be angry to be scared
she's just having on of those days
but no one was aware

I lost myself by being strong
the one thing I couldn't find
the worst loss was not that of hope
it was the loss of one's own mind

she gave to me a firm foundation
of kindness, laughter and tears
she moved on and left me out
alone with bitterness and fears

someone's voice is missing
another's life is gone
no one to protect me
or keep me from doing wrong

abandonment has many faces
I try to push them all away
it is hard to live in sorrow
just hope I'll be okay

I can't be figured out
so why do people try
I need someone to hold me
to say it's okay to cry

I make it hard to love me
I have built a wall
I suppose being abandoned
is better that not to be loved at all
