hours at hand
paint
twelve seated at a table
for one
whose center is
isolated
in a traditional setting.

bread wine and
betrayal
are served
in the presence of silver
thirty pieces
not upon the table.

a dark kiss
finds one in a garden
arresting
to a governor
for whom the supper
found no order.
all charges handed
to one upright
and nail bound.

a puzzle still
words of cross
when executed
are punished in capital
the numeral laws
of roman time.
the twelve table code
finds a crossbeam carried over
from a supper
last remembered.

as one of two
comes to be three
a silent gesticulation
finds trinity
within
a sign of cross.

resurrect
now risen
on day of sun
for are we given
yet by one.

I have seen a life-sized reproduction of "The Last Supper"--and the spiritual power that emanated from it held me, as did this writing, John. Truly beautiful.

quite a creation John, did you hear about the gospel of Judas being uncovered, in it Jesus asked Judas to betray him. Judas didn't want too because he knew he would be hated or possibly stoned. They couldn't find the reason Jesus wanted this done though

I'm so sorry I missed this in my email on Sunday (down in the messey list) But Truth expressed in such telling images is always True - and this poem reveals the real "da Vinci code"! I love how you see such symbolism behind the real events we know happened.

Beautifully, beautifully done. So rare to see the subject handled with such clarity and delicacy! You allow the images to speak for themselves. Isn't nearly as easy as it sounds. True Poetry!! 'Pea' <3

The cock crows...to this day, Easter, and ever since, a sacrificial lamb bleeds, but the wool is as white as snow! Warmth with a chill...just thinking about it!
One I shall save, John...Masterful write!

I can only add to the chorus below me, John. This is a compelling write and a fascinating read as you reel us in with your well-spun words and images, crafting the Easter gospel afresh with such deft sleight of hand somehow that makes it truly shine with mysticism and "magic". Jesus would love the way you draw people in to this... a man after his own heart of knowing how to grab attention with words and parables. This reminds me of Jesus writing in the sand with his fingers while causing others to think... Arresting indeed. TY Kate xx

Persuasive. . . .
A very interesting write
On the last supper
The last night
And the last day.
Then 3 days and nights later
We have a resurrected Savior.
I really like the way you can say so much
With so few words.

Yesterday a.m. was Easter service and sermon. Afterwards was a joyous time with family...good food and laughter and an egg hunt with the little ones. Last night was Easter program and praise service at church, followed by homecoming to your poem and delighting in the beauty of its execution. It seems that we all have occasion to honor you once more.

Wine, bread and betrayal, over two thousand years after...wine for the homeless but no bread for dying of hunger children, but my God! there is not lack of betrayal, on the contrary its is at surplus.
The poem gives that promise of a resurrection to some good while the mouth still taste the flavor of the three first words of this review.
If optimism isn't death...the world aren't at a total lost.
